Jamshedpur, Apr 18: Amid rising concerns about basic facilities at Tatanagar Railway Hospital, a meeting of the hospital’s visiting committee was held on Thursday at the office of Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Jai Prakash Mahali. The session included participation from Dr. Raju Mohanta and representatives of the Mass Union, OBC Organization and SC/ST Employees Union.
During the meeting, strong objections were raised over the non-implementation of previous resolutions. Major issues highlighted included the lack of proper food and clean drinking water for the hospital’s 17,500 registered patients.
“The CMS failed to provide updates on many previous assurances,” one representative said. Dr. Mohanta responded with a promise to take swift action.
Twelve key points were finalized, including restarting the closed laboratory, fulfilling the earlier-approved demand for 45 additional beds and appointing more doctors. It was also decided to launch a 24-hour helpline, install air conditioning in indoor wards and make arrangements for the stay of patients’ relatives.
Union representatives warned that if improvements are not made soon, they will escalate the issue from the division to the zone level. The hospital administration now faces pressure to show tangible progress before further discontent brews among staff and patients.
