Suicide of Minor Working in Inspector’s House Prompts CID Investigation Appeal

Ranchi: A distressing incident unfolded as a minor girl employed in the residence of Inspector Nutan Modi in Bokaro district took her own life by hanging. The Inspector admitted the minor to Medanta Hospital in Irba, Ranchi, without notifying the police administration. Responding to this, Baijnath Kumar, Secretary of Child Rights Foundation, has penned a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), urging a CID investigation into the entire matter.

The complaint letter to the DGP outlines that an agreement was reached on October 8, 2020, at Satgaon police station in Koderma district. The agreement involved the minor girl’s brothers, Gaurav Kumar and Saurav Kumar, deciding that their minor sister would voluntarily live with their aunt, Nutan Modi, for educational purposes. The agreement emphasized that the minor should not face any harassment while staying with her real aunt, Nutan Modi. However, instead of facilitating the girl’s education, she was reportedly assigned household chores.

On November 10, 2023, at around 8:30 am, the Traffic Station In-charge of Bokaro, Nutan Modi, informed the minor girl’s brother that she had hanged herself. The girl’s brother promptly reported the incident in writing to the police station in-charge in Satgaon, Koderma. It’s noteworthy that Nutan Modi admitted the minor to Medanta Hospital without informing the police administration.

The letter asserts that the treatment given to the minor after the hanging incident was not communicated to the police, as per the brother’s knowledge. The working style of Nutan Modi, the Traffic Police Station In-charge, Bokaro, is deemed questionable and suspicious in this tragic incident. Additionally, making a minor girl engage in child labor without obtaining permission from CWAC Koderma and Bokaro is alleged to be illegal and a violation of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act. The CID investigation is sought to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
