Jamshedpur, August 1: A six year-old boy, identified as Gautam Kalindi, son of Rajesh Kalindi, a resident of Kashidanga Tola under Galudih PS, died of snake bite in the wee hours of Monday.
Sources said a poisonous snake, most probably a crait, bit the child when he was sleeping in his bed along with his mother Basanti Kalindi and his younger brother Uttam Kalindi. Around 3 am, the victim got up and told his mother something had bitten him in his hand and that he was feeling a burning sensation. The mother got up anxiously and found a snake in the bed.
Shocked by the sight, the family members caught the snake and took the boy to Ghatsila Sub Divisional Hospital. The boy was administered an injection and referred to MGM Hospital where he died within half an hour of being admitted.
The victim’s father, who works in Nimdih, Chandil, was informed about the tragic incident over phone.
