Ranchi, July 23: In a major health-sector boost, six district hospitals across Jharkhand are slated to be upgraded to medical colleges under public–private partnership (PPP) mode. The plan gained theoretical approval today during a meeting between Jharkhand’s Health Minister Sudivya Kumar and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi.
The proposed upgrades include hospitals in Dhanbad, Deoghar, Khunti, Giridih, Jamtara, and East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur). Sudivya Kumar urged for immediate approval and funding to expand tertiary healthcare in the state. “I am confident that with sustained support from the central government, Jharkhand will scale new heights in the health sector, delivering improved services to its citizens,” he said via X.
If approved, the hospitals will adopt a PPP model to enhance infrastructure, faculty, and medical facilities, helping reduce patient dependence on distant metropolitan centres.
