Seraikela, May 31: The court of Principal District Judge (PDJ) of Seraikela-Kharsawan Vijay Kumar sentenced two persons each to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act here on Tuesday. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.
The convicts, Mumtaz Miyan and Mohammad Anwar Hussain, were arrested by Chandil police for possessing 197.3 kg of illegal doda (poppy seeds) on 27th March 2019. A case was registered against the accused persons on the information of ASI Ran Vijay Singh. The ASI had got a tip-off about a heavy amount of narcotic substance being carried in a bus from Ranchi to Kolkata.
A police team cased the bus around 1.30 am and caught it near Suman Hotel near National Highway 33. Cops recovered doda from the back seat and sleeper seats of the bus. The narcotic substance was concealed in nine plastic and rexine bags. Mumtaz Miyan and Mohammad Anwar Hussain were arrested from the bus.
