Jamshedpur: Kanku Villagers Protest at DC Office in Support of Stone Crusher Project

Jamshedpur: Landowners and villagers from Kanku in the Patamda block of Jamshedpur gathered in large numbers to picket the District Collectorate and the District Mining Office for two hours on Saturday. The demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the district administration supporting a proposed stone crusher and mining project in their area, linking the industry to local employment and regional development.

Supporters emphasized that Kanku and its surrounding pockets remain economically underdeveloped. Due to limited local job opportunities, a significant portion of the youth must migrate to metropolitan cities for work. Villagers believe that launching the stone crusher and mining unit will generate local employment, allowing young residents to earn a livelihood closer to home.

According to the villagers, 33 landowner families (raiyats) have voluntarily provided their land to set up the industry. They argue that the project will not only create jobs but will also drive infrastructural growth, including better roads, reliable electricity, and improved basic amenities. This, in turn, is expected to boost local commerce and accelerate overall regional progress.

The protesting villagers alleged that a few anti-social elements are opposing the project for personal gains and trying to obstruct development. They have urged the administration to expedite the project while ensuring local youth receive priority in hiring. Additionally, the villagers demanded the reinforcement of transit routes leading to the industrial zone, structured infrastructure development, and clear safeguards for the community’s long-term interests.
