Jamshedpur, Feb 9: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) has expressed hopes for an airport in Jamshedpur for connecting the city to other states.

SCCI president Vijay Anand Moonka and honorary general secretary Manav Kedia, in a joint statement, said the Tata group should consider starting Air India flights from Jamshedpur in the near future in the light of recent acquisition of the reputed airlines by the esteemed corporate house.

“At present, there is no flight connectivity in the city. Local residents have long been demanding an airport in the city and now the time has come when this demand gets fulfilled,” said the officials.

Moonka said local industrialists, traders and all other citizens have to go to Ranchi to take a flight to other parts of the country. Steel city is the cradle of industrialization in India. This makes the need for an airport all more evident, he said.

  1. I travel to Jamshedpur from Pune once or twice a year but it’s painstaking to take a flight from Ranchi everytime I have to travel. So sometimes I prefer trains to Flights because of mere convenience.I hope it happens soon as it will help me travel frequently to Jamshedpur and meet my mom.😊

  2. Please understand the difficulty we people of JAMSHEDPUR has to face.Jamshedpur is itself dependent city but its citizen has to go to ranchi and board the flights please make it a sincere consideration for the mere convenience of jamshedpurians

  3. Though Jamshedpur airport is a Licenced Airport, with effective length of runway being just about 2500 feet it is not possible to operate Jet aircrafts and even medium size turbo prop aircrafts. At best it can operate Charter flights with small aircrafts. There is very little/no scope to increase the length of runway. Therefore, let’s not harbour false hope. Even ATR-72(70 seater) aircrafts operated by Airlines will require about 4500 feet of runway.

  4. I travel Jamshedpur to Bangalore by flight but it is not very easy traveling. I have to go to Ranchi airport. It takes lots of money in Ola. As per my point of view the airport should be in Jamshedpur to travel other parts of the country. It will be very convenient for travelers.

  5. Jamshedpur SONARI should start AIRINDIA EXPRESS FLIGHTS with immediate effect from Kolkata/Bhubaneshwar and onward flights from Jamshedpur to DURGAPUR/RAIPUR and other places. They should start flights wef 1st APRIL 2022 AIRINDIA EXPRESS

  6. It is very unfortunate that there is no Airport/flight service in Jamshedpur to have air connectivity to others cities and states 😞
The city Jamshedpur is named after a great visionary late shri J.N.TATA. This city is an old but a developed city which is also known as industrial city . “TATA STEEL ” ,”TATA MOTOR ” and others so many industries in the city.
We were very happy and hopeful when “Bhumi pujan ” for the Airport was performed 2-3 years ago but it is still pending .
This is very much needed for all groups of people – students, service holders, businessmen and others of all ages even sr.citizens.
We all waiting for positive response.

  7. The team of senior officials of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation sould carry out some survey to explore the possibility of runway extension. We hope for best. Currently Sonari airport is 1272m runway length which is suitable for ATR-72 type aircraft.
