Jamshedpur Administration appeals against rumours ahead of Muharram celebrations

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration and police have appealed to citizens to reject communal rumours and refrain from sharing misleading or objectionable content on social media ahead of Muharram 2026. Officials delivered the warning during a Central Peace Committee meeting at the Town Hall in Sidhgora, where they reviewed security and administrative preparations for the upcoming festival.

Addressing Akhara committee representatives, public leaders, and peace committee members, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey emphasized responsible social media usage. He cautioned the public against forwarding unverified messages, provocative posts, or rumours that could trigger social tension.

Tight Security and Vigilance Planned

The SSP announced that the police administration is on alert and is deploying adequate forces at all sensitive and major locations across the district. He urged citizens to verify facts before hitting share and to cooperate fully with law enforcement.

Furthermore, the administration requested Akhara committees to maintain constant communication with district officials and the police during Muharram processions to resolve any logistical issues immediately.

Infrastructure and Harmony Given Top Priority

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan reminded attendees of East Singhbhum’s rich tradition of social harmony and mutual brotherhood, noting that community cooperation historically ensures peaceful festivals. He stated that the administration prioritizes citizen safety and convenience, and has already ordered relevant departments to finish groundwork on time.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed all departments to complete their tasks within a strict timeframe and maintain high vigilance. He directed civic bodies to ensure proper sanitation, clean drinking water, and backup lighting along all designated procession routes well in advance.
