Jamshedpur, June 14: West Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy conducted a surprise inspection of the mobile midday meal initiative — Shri Balaji Annapurna Chalant Bhojanalay — that he had launched on June 4, 2025. Marking the tenth day of the initiative, Roy joined beneficiaries for lunch and evaluated the quality and cleanliness of the meals being served.
The MLA found the food to be hygienic and tasty. On Saturday, the menu included khichdi, chokha, papad and pickle. He shared that any individual can enjoy a wholesome meal for just ₹5 from this mobile food service, stationed near Kadma market. A total of 202 people had lunch from the van that day.

Roy explained that the mobile vehicle has been funded through his MLA fund, while meal preparation and service are being managed by the Swarnarekha Kshetra Vikas Trust. He highlighted that the primary beneficiaries include daily wage labourers, shop workers, construction workers and even ordinary people caught away from home during mealtime.
Taking a hands-on approach, the MLA personally distributed ₹5 meal tokens and served food from within the vehicle. Interacting with the beneficiaries, he received positive feedback — most appreciated the affordability, taste and hygiene of the food.
Addressing the media, Roy said that if more benevolent individuals or institutions come forward to support the initiative, he is willing to fund an additional vehicle from his MLA quota. Currently, about 200 people benefit from the scheme daily and the goal is to increase this number to 500. He also extended his gratitude to the cooks, servers and the driver who help run the program. Plans are underway to start a similar service in Mango as well.
