Jamshedpur: An unknown miscreant has created a fake Facebook ID impersonating East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi. The fraudulent profile has triggered alarm within the district administration, prompting a swift and firm response to safeguard the public from potential misinformation and misuse of identity.
Terming the act as a serious cyber offence, the district administration has appealed to citizens to remain alert and vigilant against such deceptive tactics. Officials clarified that such activities are not only illegal but are intended to mislead and manipulate the general public, often leading to identity theft, financial fraud, or the spread of false information.

In a public advisory issued by the East Singhbhum District Administration, citizens have been warned against accepting friend requests or responding to messages from suspicious or unfamiliar accounts—especially those claiming to be public officials.
“People should be extremely careful before interacting with any such social media profiles that seem unusual or unverified,” said an official spokesperson. “If anyone receives messages asking for personal information, financial support, or promoting schemes using the Deputy Commissioner’s name, they should treat them as suspicious and report the profile immediately.”
The Cyber Cell has taken cognizance of the matter and launched an investigation to trace the origin of the fake account. Officers are working to identify the individual or group behind the act and ensure strict action under the Information Technology Act and Indian Penal Code provisions applicable to cyber impersonation.
Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has personally appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in curbing such criminal acts. “Social media platforms are important tools for public communication and engagement. Misusing them to impersonate government officials not only harms individuals but also erodes public trust,” he said.
The East Singhbhum administration reiterated its commitment to promoting safe and responsible digital usage and warned that any attempts to tarnish the image of government officials through fraudulent means will be met with legal action.
In light of this incident, the administration also plans to intensify public awareness campaigns across schools, colleges, and community platforms to educate people—especially the youth—about cyber hygiene, online frauds, and safe digital practices.
“For any doubts regarding official communication from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, citizens are encouraged to rely on verified channels such as the official district website, verified social media pages, and helpline numbers,” said an official.
