Jamshedpur Police Under Fire: DIG Warns Against Delay in Charge Sheets

Jamshedpur

Taking serious note of delays and negligence in handling criminal cases, Kolhan DIG Anuranjan Kispotta has expressed strong displeasure over the laxity observed in cases registered under the Arms Act in Jamshedpur and surrounding urban areas.

During a high-level review meeting held on Friday, the DIG convened all Station In-charges and DSPs of urban jurisdictions to assess the status of pending Arms Act cases. The findings exposed significant delays in investigation and prosecution, raising concerns over the effectiveness of law enforcement.

Serious Delays in Charge Sheet Filing

The review revealed that in a case registered as far back as 2020 at Kadma police station, the final charge sheet is still pending. In addition, charge sheets have not been filed in 35 other cases over the past four years, reflecting a pattern of prolonged inaction.

Officials further informed that around 95 cases under the Arms Act have been registered in urban areas during this period, many of which are yet to reach the prosecution stage.

Expressing dissatisfaction, DIG Kispotta directed all officers to ensure immediate filing of charge sheets in pending cases and warned against further delays.

Strict Action Against Absconders Ordered

Taking a firm stance, the DIG instructed officers to intensify efforts to arrest absconding accused. He further directed that attachment proceedings be initiated against those evading arrest by securing warrants from the court.

The move is aimed at sending a strong message against criminal elements and ensuring accountability within the police system.

Focus on Controlling Violent Crime

In light of recent incidents involving attacks with sharp weapons, the DIG emphasized the need for thorough and time-bound investigations. He directed officers to take stringent action against those involved in violent crimes and to enhance preventive policing measures.

City SP Kumar Shivashish was also present during the meeting, which focused on improving coordination and strengthening law enforcement in urban areas.

Following the review, DIG Kispotta returned to Chaibasa late in the evening, leaving behind clear instructions for stricter policing and faster judicial processes.

The strong directives from the DIG signal a renewed push to tighten law enforcement and restore public confidence in the criminal justice system across the Kolhan region.
