Ranchi: Six rebel JVM (P) legislators who have joined BJP called on assembly speaker Dinesh Oraon today.
The JVM (P) legislators had to present their stands in the light of the demand of cancellation of House memberships put up by the JVM (P).
The rebel legislators begged for two months time to present their stands on the issue of their joining the BJP from the speaker.
The assembly speaker will have to take a decision on the demand of cancellation of assembly memberships of six legislators Navin Jaisawal, Ganesh Ganju, Janki Yadav, Amar Bauri, Randhir Singh and Alok Chaurasia.
In the meantime State politics hot up in the wake of defection of six JVM (P) legislators. Left parties and the Congress have joined ranks with JMM and JVM (P) to train guns at the government on the issue. Today major opposition parties including JMM and JVM (P) staged a sit-in in front of Raj Bhavan on the issues of land acquisition ordinance, domicile policy and defection of JVM (P) legislators to BJP.
It may be recalled here that JVM (P) president Babulal Marandi had urged the assembly speaker to cancel assembly memberships of six revel legislators who defected to BJP under Schedule 10 of the Constitution.
On the other the leader of the rebel group of legislators Navin Jaisawal said that they had defected to BJP to end the political instability in Jharkhand.
The switching over of six JVM (P) legislators to BJP has snowballed into a major controversy. The JVM (P) had earlier put accusations on the BJP that the latter was encouraging horse-trading in the State to gain majority in the House.
The party in its earlier stand took a decision to suspend four rebel JVM (P) legislators. But it could not stop the ultimate defection of six JVM (P) legislators who chose to leave their parent party in favor of BJP.
Caught in a catch-22 situation the JVM (P) leadership raised the demand of cancellation of House memberships to six JVM (P) legislators.
The assembly speaker has already stated that he is consulting legal and Constitutional experts to come on a decision of suspension of assembly memberships of the six rebel legislators.
He also sought separate meetings with the JVM (P) and the BJP on the issue.
Taking cognizance of the speakerís request the six revel legislators called on the speaker and sought two months time to present their stands on the matter.
