Jamshedpur: In a significant move, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has announced the formation of Public Facility Committees in the Mango Municipal Corporation and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) regions. The initiative aims to address civic issues like water, electricity, roads, drainage, and waste management. These committees will be open to anyone, regardless of political affiliation, provided they have knowledge and solutions for local problems.
Speaking at a press conference at his Bistupur office, Roy criticized the lack of implementation of the Solid Waste Management Act in Jharkhand, noting that progress in only two or three districts was insufficient. He highlighted the urgency of preparations for the upcoming Mango Municipal Corporation elections, questioning the availability of basic infrastructure, such as an office for the elected representatives.
Addressing the state’s economic challenges, Roy urged the Finance Minister to draft a strict and practical budget rather than a populist one. He emphasized the need for the state administration to build capacity to utilize central funds effectively and ensure that budget allocations are not surrendered or misused.
On the issue of mines, Roy expressed concern over the state government’s failure to auction or license iron-ore mines, leaving the task to the central government. He called for stronger coordination with the Centre to accelerate resource development and avoid conflicts that hinder progress.
Roy also stressed transparency in public finances, urging the government to provide detailed accounts of the alleged Rs. 1.36 lakh crore dues from the Centre. Highlighting the need for better representation in Delhi, he suggested appointing competent officers to liaise with the central government.
In conclusion, Roy advocated for Jharkhand to shift from being a consumer state to a producer state, focusing on generating wealth from internal resources. He called for honesty and clarity in the upcoming budget session, stating that sustainable development requires strict governance and effective resource management.
