During the tour, the committee is conducting an in-depth study of various dimensions, schemes, and methodologies related to women and child development.
As part of the study tour, the committee members visited the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Members of the Maharashtra Women and Child Development Committee were also present at the meeting chaired by Narwekar.
The delegation also visited the manufacturing centre of ‘Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad’ in Bandra, Mumbai. Here, they observed the operational model of this self-reliance and independence initiative run by women. MLA Purnima Sahu invited the organization’s operators to open a branch of Lijjat Papad in Jamshedpur, which would provide better employment and self-employment opportunities for local women. The committee also visited the Lok Bhavan in Mumbai, where they paid their respects at the life-size statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and various deities installed on the premises.
The committee members inspected a working women’s hostel. During this inspection, they gathered detailed information regarding the facilities, security arrangements, residential management, and other provisions available for women coming from outside to work. MLA Purnima Sahu also met with representatives of the SNEHA Foundation, an organization actively working in the fields of women’s safety and child malnutrition, to learn about their initiatives. Furthermore, during their Maharashtra stay, the delegation studied the functioning of Maharashtra’s famous 135-year-old Dabbawala tiffin delivery system.
Sharing information on the matter, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu stated that the Maharashtra study tour experience so far has been highly meaningful and inspiring. “It has provided an opportunity to deeply understand various subjects related to women and child development and to learn about several new working systems,” she said. “Soon, a meeting will also be organized with the Tata management on issues related to women and child development to ensure better initiatives for the welfare of women and children.”
