Ranchi, June 23: In anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun laying the groundwork following its setback of losing three seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Jharkhand BJP election in-charge Shivraj Singh Chouhan and co-in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma are currently in the state to bolster the party’s campaign. They were joined by Jharkhand state BJP president Babulal Marandi and Leader of Opposition Amar Bauri at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in Ranchi on Sunday.

Addressing the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also the Assam Chief Minister and election co-in-charge for Jharkhand BJP, highlighted that despite a decrease in Lok Sabha seats compared to 2019, the party performed well, leading in 52 assembly constituencies. He questioned the accountability of Jharkhand’s Chief Minister amidst electoral losses, stating his readiness to resign if faced with similar circumstances.

Earlier, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a meeting with BJP MLAs from Jharkhand and leaders who contested the Lok Sabha polls. Chouhan praised the collective effort in securing victories, alongside ally AJSU Party, in 9 constituencies.

Chouhan criticized the current Jharkhand government as the “most corrupt,” alleging unfulfilled promises and pervasive unemployment. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to rooting out corruption and delivering good governance under Babulal Marandi’s leadership.

Responding to queries about BJP’s performance in tribal (ST) reserved seats, Chouhan underscored the dynamics of democracy, emphasizing overall electoral gains.

Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored BJP’s lead in 52 assembly seats, signalling a path towards majority. He highlighted the party’s competitive edge, even in constituencies held by the incumbent Chief Minister.

In a separate engagement at the National Agricultural Higher Institute (NASHA) campus in Namkum, Sarma participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, planting saplings alongside local leaders and engaging with institute scientists.
