Jamshedpur, Dec 14: In a groundbreaking move, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur will now offer its students the opportunity to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree alongside their Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech). This initiative is the result of a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIT Jamshedpur and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam.

Starting from the upcoming academic session, the MBA program will be conducted in hybrid mode, combining online and offline learning. Academic Dean CH Madhusudan stated, “Students in the third and fourth semesters of B.Tech will be eligible to enroll in the MBA course. This will enable them to earn two degrees simultaneously, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.”

Enhancing Career Prospects

Recognizing the growing demand for management skills in the engineering sector, NIT Jamshedpur has tailored this course to include cutting-edge subjects like data analytics, machine learning, and finance. Dean Madhusudan emphasized, “Engineering students pursuing management courses gain dual benefits—technical expertise and business acumen. This initiative is a step towards addressing industry needs.”

The syllabus has been finalized, and faculty nominations have been made. Final approval will be sought from the Academic Council and the Board of Governance before the program’s launch.

Future Plans

While the initial MBA program will be conducted in collaboration with IIM Visakhapatnam, NIT Jamshedpur plans to establish a full-fledged management department in the future. The hybrid mode of delivery ensures flexibility, allowing students to balance their engineering studies with management education.

Fee Reduction for MTech Professional Course

In another development, NIT Jamshedpur has introduced a professional MTech course for working professionals in fields such as metallurgy, mechanical, civil, and production engineering. Currently, the course costs ₹75,000 per semester, but the institute is considering a fee reduction based on requests from various companies.

A reduction of ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 is being discussed to make the course more accessible. Evening classes have been arranged to accommodate the schedules of working professionals.

These initiatives reaffirm NIT Jamshedpur’s commitment to equipping its students and professionals with skills that align with industry demands, opening new doors for career advancement.
