Newly elected Ghatsila MLA Somesh Chandra administered oath in Vidhan Sabha

Ranchi: Just a day before Jharkhand Assembly’s foundation day, newly elected Ghatsila MLA Somesh Chandra Soren took his oath as a member of the Assembly on Friday. Elected on a JMM ticket in the recent by-election, Soren was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato at the Assembly office. Senior JMM leader Stephen Marandi and supporters from Ghatsila were present during the ceremony.

After taking the oath, Soren expressed gratitude first to the people of Ghatsila for their support, and then to party president Hemant Soren, star campaigners, Gandey MLA Kalpana Soren, and all other MPs, MLAs, and party workers. He also thanked members of allied parties for their contributions during the election.

Speaker Mahato described the Ghatsila by-election as a complex and challenging contest, recalling that it coincided with other elections in the country. He congratulated Soren, wishing him success in his political journey and hoping he emerges as a strong leader.

The by-election followed the death of former Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren on 15 August during treatment in Delhi. Somesh Chandra Soren, son of the late MLA, contested the by-election as the joint candidate of the Mahagathbandhan under JMM’s banner, while BJP fielded Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren. The counting on 14 November declared Somesh Chandra Soren victorious by a margin of over 38,000 votes.
