Jamshedpur, Jan 14: Jamshedpur saw a decline in Covid-19 cases for the second straight day and recorded 472 infections while two people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, said East Singhbhum Covid-19 bulletin on Friday.
This is the second day of decline in fresh Covid cases. On January 12 (Wednesday), 1280 fresh cases were reported while on Thursday 906, according to health bulletin.
The fresh infections were 3.54 per cent less than Thursday when Jamshedpur logged 906 cases.
Jamshedpur’s positivity rate – the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests – was 6.69 percent with the latest addition in cases. 7054 samples were tested on Friday.
The city has been producing a tidal wave of cases over the past days and the surge is believed to be driven by the Omicron variant. The variant is highly transmissible, according to experts.
East Singhbhum’s death toll went up to 1085 as 75-year-old Bagbera man and 86-year-old Birsanagar resident succumbed to the virus on Friday.
Fresh infections on Friday total active cases in the city to 7347.
48 cases have been reported from Mango, 54 from Kadma, 21 from Sonari, 45 from Telco, 30 from Sonari and 20 from Sonari.
The positivity rate rose to 2.90 per cent in Jamshedpur.
The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 61546 and the death count is now 1085, according to the latest health bulletin.
The new cases came out of the 7054 tests conducted on Friday. There are 7347 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur.
As many 53114 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 271 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. 7054 COVID-19 tests, including 1455 RT-PCR, 5307 RAT and 292 TrueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.
East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 795899 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 86.97% while the mortality rate is 1.76%.
So far in Jamshedpur 2120633 samples have been collected out of which 2118682 have been tested and 2057136 have turned out to be negative.
