National Lok Adalat in Jamshedpur Resolves 2.49 Lakh Cases, Collects ₹6.09 Crore

Jamshedpur: The National Lok Adalat was successfully organized in Jamshedpur on March 8, 2025. The event was inaugurated online by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Hon’ble Executive Chairman of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) and a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court. Justice Prasad emphasized the importance of Lok Adalats in providing quick and amicable dispute resolution across India. The event was organized under the aegis of JHALSA, with simultaneous sessions held across all District Legal Services Authorities in Jharkhand. The inauguration ceremony at JHALSA Ranchi was live-streamed at the Lok Adalat Hall of Jamshedpur Civil Court. The event also coincided with International Women’s Day celebrations.

2,49,799 cases disposed, Rs. 6.09 Crore revenue collected

A record-breaking 2,49,799 cases were resolved during the National Lok Adalat held at Jamshedpur Civil Court, resulting in the collection of Rs. 6,09,96,453 in revenue. To facilitate the proceedings, 12 judicial benches were set up in Jamshedpur Civil Court and three benches in Ghatsila Sub-Divisional Court.

One notable settlement involved an insurance claim, where Oriental Insurance Company issued a compensation cheque of Rs. 16,34,141 to a victim, Raj Kumar Singh. The cheque was formally handed over by Principal District and Sessions Judge Hon. Anil Kumar Mishra.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Family Court Judge Ajit Kumar Singh, State Bar Council Vice President Rajesh Shukla, DLSA Secretary Rajendra Prasad, District Bar Association President R. N. Das, General Secretary Rajesh Ranjan and senior officials from Bank of India and State Bank of India. The guests were honoured with bouquets and in their addresses, Principal District Judge Anil Kumar Mishra and Rajesh Kumar Shukla urged people to utilize Lok Adalats for faster justice resolution.

The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by dignitaries. Alongside the Lok Adalat, International Women’s Day was also celebrated in the Civil Court Campus and Judge Colony, with active participation from court staff, DLSA members, panel lawyers and legal volunteers.

Mediation brings separated couple back together

The National Lok Adalat also played a crucial role in reuniting separated couples through mediation. A long-standing marital dispute between Shila Kumari and Abhay Apoorva was amicably resolved in the Family Court.

The couple, who got married on November 11, 2018, at Ram Mandir, Telco, had their marriage legally registered on February 27, 2019. However, disputes arose soon after, leading to separation and a pending case in Family Court. Through mediation in the National Lok Adalat, both spouses agreed to reconcile, marking a heartwarming conclusion to their differences. In a symbolic gesture, they exchanged garlands and sweets, signifying their commitment to a fresh start.

The success of the National Lok Adalat in Jamshedpur stands as a testament to the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution, offering citizens a quicker and more cost-effective means of settling legal matters.
