MGM Hospital Jamshedpur overwhelmed as cold wave drives patient surge

Jamshedpur, Jan 6: A sharp increase in cold-related illnesses has overwhelmed MGM Hospital as the city grapples with severe winter conditions. Patients suffering from cold, cough, pneumonia, and other ailments have filled all hospital beds, with long queues seen at the emergency counter.

According to a hospital official, over 90 patients were attended to in the emergency ward by 1 PM on Monday, while more than 800 prescriptions were issued in the OPD. “The OPD counter closes at noon, forcing many relatives to stand in long lines at the emergency counter for slips,” he explained.

Doctors noted a significant rise in cases among children and the elderly. “Children under one year are mostly suffering from diarrhoea, throat infections, and pneumonia, while older children face asthma complications. Elderly patients are complaining of joint pain aggravated by the cold,” said Dr. Anil Kumar, a senior physician.

The hospital administration is urging residents to take precautions against the cold, including wearing warm clothing and staying indoors during extreme weather. However, with the cold wave persisting, the hospital continues to struggle with the influx of patients.
