Jamshedpur West MLA’s Team Corners JNAC Over Sanitation and Civic Failures

Jamshedpur: A delegation representing Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy met the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum on Friday to submit a memorandum. The memorandum primarily drew attention to the apathy of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) in executing critical public welfare projects.

The document highlights widespread irregularities in the door-to-door garbage collection system, noting a complete lack of satisfactory service in several neighbourhoods. It further emphasizes that the absence of proper sanitation measures is causing severe inconvenience to local citizens.

Additionally, the memorandum notes that defective streetlights and high-mast lights remain unrepaired across the city. It also raises concerns about development schemes whose tenders were finally issued last year—after being cancelled multiple times—yet the physical groundwork on these projects has still not commenced.

Failure of Basic Civic Amenities

The delegation led by Mukul Mishra, the public convenience representative of Roy, pointed out several other lapses by JNAC, including:

• Defunct Handpumps: Failure to repair broken handpumps, worsening local water issues.
• Public Restrooms: Poor maintenance and unhygienic conditions in public toilets.
• Wasted Resources: Garbage collection remains disrupted despite the MLA fund providing 6 specialized e-rickshaws to streamline the process.

The memorandum explicitly questions JNAC’s decision-making: The civic body floated a major sanitation tender two months ago, only to cancel it later. The delegation demanded to know why a fresh tender has not been reissued since then. It also criticized JNAC’s grievance redressal system, calling it slow, ineffective, and failing to resolve public complaints in a time-bound manner.
