Jamshedpur, Aug 9: A fire broke out early Saturday morning at a shop adjacent to the boundary wall of Loyola School, Telco. The blaze, which erupted around 6:00 a.m., sent flames high enough to touch a nearby 11,000-volt high-tension power line, narrowly avoiding a major disaster.
Alert local residents immediately informed authorities, and firefighters rushed to the scene to douse the flames. School officials said the fire came dangerously close to the campus transformer and generator, both located inside the premises beneath the same high-tension line.
Terming the incident a “grave safety concern,” the school administration once again appealed to the district authorities for urgent intervention. It highlighted that encroachments around the school had been repeatedly reported in the past, yet no concrete action had been taken.
According to the school, heavy trucks frequently parked near the premises, creating security risks, while in the evening street vendors selling liquor and non-vegetarian food left behind alcohol bottles and plastic waste inside the compound. Stray cattle were also a regular hazard near the school’s Gates No. 1 and 2.
The administration urged the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate steps to clear encroachments, regulate street vending, and ensure a secure environment for students. Parents and residents awaited swift, decisive measures to prevent future risks.
