Longer wait for city bus service in Jamshedpur

Survey undertaken for resumption of service

Jamshedpur, May 21: Under the 15th Finance Plan, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) is preparing to start city bus service in the city.

The district administration is conducting a survey of all the routes to start the city bus service so that buses can be operated as per the requirement and the benefit of which can be given to the common people.

Delhi’s agency Credible Management has been appointed by the district administration to conduct the survey. The agency has been directed to submit the DPR on the basis of survey within two months.

In this regard, the city manager of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Jai Gudiya said that the agency has been instructed to mark the route, survey the square intersections where the bus can be stopped so that the large population can benefit from it.

A route map has also been asked to be made on which road, how many seats the bus can ply, the width of the road, the safety of the passengers, at what time in the day the service will be started and when it will be closed in the evening or at night.

Apart from students and daily laborers along with the general public, people coming and going for jobs will also benefit from this scheme. He told that the inspection report has been submitted by the agency appointed by the district administration in the month of April.

In which it was told that what survey will be done by the agency. At the same time, in the month of June, the DPR of the survey report will be prepared and submitted by the agency.

The DPR will be sent to the department with the allocation and permission for this scheme being received by the department, the tender for the city bus service will be floated.

The city manager told that there is a plan to run 100 buses by the department, but on the basis of DPR it will be decided on which route how many buses will run. For the purpose of preserving the environment, CNG or electric buses will be run under this scheme. The agency which will operate the buses under this scheme will be responsible for the maintenance of the buses.

JNAC had received 50 city buses in 2010 from JNNURM (Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Rejuvenation Mission). But due to lack of attention by the operator and JNAC, the operation of the city bus stopped. The bus is currently standing in a dilapidated condition at Sidhgora depot.

Before the lockdown, 120 minibuses used to run on 12 different routes from Sakchi stand in Jamshedpur. But today only five routes Sundernagar 22, Rahargoda 4, Govindpur 8, Dimna 8, Kandra-Gamharia 24 and 66 minibuses ply while minibuses of Telco, Baridih, Bagbeda, Kadma, Sonari, Barmamines and Adityapur Colony are closed.
