Leopard eludes capture by Jamshedpur Forest Department since 14 days

Jamshedpur: The elusive leopard has yet to be captured despite the concerted efforts of a team comprising 60 Forest Department personnel over a span of 14 days. Additional assistance was sought from a 10-member team from Betla Tiger Reserve and Bankura, West Bengal, along with a local team of 50 employees. Despite extensive search operations, the elusive leopard remains untraced.

There were suspicions of the leopard’s presence near the boundary wall of a factory that prompted the deployment of teams to block intersections for possible capture. The leopard was last spotted entering RSB Plant One in Gamharia on March 17 before disappearing into the colony.

In response to the heightened fear among industrial entrepreneurs and residents, measures such as the installation of 10 night vision cameras and the deployment of 50 forest personnel have been taken. However, the fear has led to the closure of several companies in the area, causing significant financial losses.

Range Officer Digvijay Singh assured of preparedness to capture the leopard by employing various techniques and alerting the public. However, fear persists among residents, leading to the closure of schools and factories, and confinement within homes.
