Jamshedpur, April 13: The agitation launched by scribes against the police assault on media persons at Sitarmdera Police Station on Sunday evening has been deferred.
Most of the demands of the journalists have been accepted by SSP Anoop T Mathew and Chief Minister Raghubar Das has ordered high level inquiry into the incident. DC Dr. Amitabh Kaushal has been given the charge to head the probe.
A meeting of the journalists of Jamshedpur was held on Wednesday at Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) where it was decided to postpone the movement. The action taken by SSP was lauded by the scribes and said that top police official kept the respect of the journalists and has taken steps to help bring justice to the journalists.
Later it was decided that if the right issues don’t come up during the investigation by DC, then the journalists will demand a meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Jamshedpur visit on April 24. Henceforth, the agitating journalists would decide their future course of action.
During the meet journalists from Jamshedpur, news channel representatives, along with scribes from Adityapur, Gamharia, Seraikela and West Singhbhum were present.
The demands, which were met, include:
• Departmental action will be taken against Sidhgora Police Station in-charge RD Singh.
• Departmental action has been taken against Sitaramdera Police Station in-charge after he was removed from the post.
• Investigation reports will also be submitted by SSP in DSP KN Mishra case.
• Journalists’ will not be dragged in case registered in Sitaramdera incident and they should not be troubled.
An advisory has been issued to all police stations and police officials so that journalists and photo journalists don’t face issues during news coverage and these types of incidents can be stopped.
SSP Anoop T Mathew has issued an advisory to subordinate officers. From City SP, Rural SP to all level officers and constables have been ordered as to how one should treat the journalists with due respect.
It has been ordered that if any journalist asks for information they should be provided the detail information and if there is an issue then they should talk with their seniors and take decision.
