RIMS & MGM security controversy: Home guards stage massive protest in Jamshedpur

Hundreds of Home Guard personnel staged a strong protest at Sakchi Aambagan grounds on Sunday against the state government’s latest directive.
The controversy erupted after Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari proposed removing Home Guard personnel from major government hospitals.
The proposal replaces the existing hospital guards with ex-servicemen at premier facilities, including RIMS and MGM.
Addressing the protesting crowd, Jharkhand Home Guard Welfare Association State General Secretary Rajiv Kumar Tiwari strongly condemned the decision.
Tiwari called the minister’s proposal an arbitrary decree. He declared that the association would not accept the decision under any circumstances.
He emphasized that a formal agreement already exists between the state government and the Home Guard personnel regarding their service and deployment.
Tiwari stated that removing personnel who served with dedication for years constitutes a grave injustice and a complete betrayal.
The association warned that it will launch a widespread, phased agitation across Jharkhand if the government fails to withdraw the order immediately.
Leaders expressed their readiness to fight for the rights and dignity of the personnel on the streets and in the courts.
They confirmed plans to file a petition in the Jharkhand High Court to challenge the unilateral government order if necessary.
Protesters arriving from Jamshedpur and surrounding areas voiced deep resentment over the sudden policy shift during the assembly.
Speakers highlighted how personnel maintained hospital security during the COVID-19 pandemic and other critical situations, often risking their own safety.
They argued that threatening the livelihoods of dedicated workers after years of selfless service remains an act they will not tolerate.
