Former Chief Minister Champai Soren questioned the state government and police administration following an alleged rape inside the Gamharia police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Soren described the late-night incident as a severe blow to Jharkhand’s law and order. He condemned the police for bringing the woman in without female officers present.
The victim had visited the station to file a complaint after a dispute with her husband. A wireless operator stationed at the police station allegedly raped her.
Despite the victim’s cries and resistance, nearby police personnel failed to assist her. The woman subsequently informed her husband and lodged a formal complaint against the perpetrator.
Authorities quickly arrested the accused officer and sent him to jail. Senior officials constituted a Special Investigation Team while initiating action against negligent staff.
Soren demanded immediate dismissal of the implicated personnel rather than mere suspension. He also called for strict accountability and firm action against senior officers.
Soren stated that the crime severely damaged police reputation and would create fear among women seeking justice. He stressed that victims must feel safe.
