Jamshedpur: To strengthen the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has launched a new initiative.
Under this initiative, flowers will be collected from puja pandals across the city. JNAC will use these flowers to make compost. Tata Steel UISL will also assist JNAC in this project. The blueprint for the plan has been finalized.
Ten flower waste vehicles have been prepared to collect flowers from the pandals. On Sunday, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar flagged off these ten flower waste vehicles from the Kashidih puja pandal in Sakchi.
Sub-municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar stated that there are 87 puja pandals in the city. These pandals have been GPS-tagged. The vehicle designated for collecting flowers will cover 14 pandals. The JNAC has also integrated temples into this plan, along with pandals. The JNAC held a formal meeting with the pandal committee chairpersons and explained the plan. They were instructed to keep flowers separate from garbage and also instructed priests not to mix flowers with other materials.
These vehicles will visit various puja pandals in the city, collecting flowers offered to idols there, and later converting them into compost using a scientific method. The Municipal Commissioner explained that previously, flowers were thrown around after pujas, disrupting sanitation. This new initiative will clean the city and maintain respect for religious beliefs.
He also stated that any pandal that remains clean will receive a special reward from JNAC. The Deputy Municipal Commissioner has appealed to the public to cooperate in this campaign and contribute to keeping the city clean.
