Rohitashya Roy appointed new Advocate General of Jharkhand

Ranchi, June 14: The Jharkhand government has appointed senior advocate Rohitashya Roy as the new Advocate General of the state following the resignation of Rajiv Ranjan. The Law Department issued an official notification on Sunday confirming the appointment.

According to the notification, the appointment was made on the orders of the Governor of Jharkhand under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India. The Governor has also accepted the resignation of outgoing Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan with immediate effect. Ranjan had submitted his resignation on June 14, citing personal reasons.

With the acceptance of Rajiv Ranjan’s resignation, Rohitashya Roy, a senior advocate practicing at the Jharkhand High Court in Ranchi, has been appointed as the state’s new Advocate General. The notification states that Roy will assume office from the date he takes charge and will continue in the position until further orders.

The development comes amid discussions in political and legal circles following Rajiv Ranjan’s sudden resignation. However, no official reason beyond personal grounds has been cited for his departure from the constitutional post.
