Ranchi, June 14: Jharkhand Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan has resigned from his post, triggering widespread speculation in political and legal circles. Before submitting his resignation, he met Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar. In his resignation letter, Ranjan cited personal reasons for stepping down. However, no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the acceptance of his resignation by the state government.
Rajiv Ranjan was appointed as the state’s Advocate General on February 7, 2020, following the formation of the JMM-led coalition government in Jharkhand in 2019. Although he had formally resigned after the new government took office in 2024, the state government had requested him to continue in the role until further orders. Notably, no fresh notification was issued reappointing him under the new administration.
Sources indicate that Ranjan had sought changes in the panel of government lawyers and had submitted a proposal to the government. However, no decision was taken on the matter. There were also concerns regarding administrative coordination, as Deputy Commissioners from several districts reportedly stopped visiting the High Court and the Advocate General’s office for affidavit-related work, instead preparing and sending affidavits from their respective districts.
These developments are believed to have contributed to his dissatisfaction. Meanwhile, political circles are abuzz with speculation that Ranjan met the Chief Secretary after receiving a call from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and subsequently tendered his resignation. However, no official statement has been issued regarding these claims.
