Jamshedpur: As temperatures rise, Kolhan region’s electricity demand is soaring. Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) is preparing for a potential 50 MW surge in demand over the coming weeks. The current supply in the region stands at 600 MW.
JBVNL has initiated round-the-clock monitoring of substations, especially in non-company areas, to gauge load and consumption trends. Daily data from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. is being collected to manage future load-shedding schedules.
Ajit Kumar, GM of the Singhbhum Project, stated, “We’re monitoring demand to avoid blackouts. It’s important to know which substations can handle excess load and where load shedding may be required.”
Substations in areas like Dimna (24 MW), Ulyan (15 MW), Jawaharnagar (14 MW) and Birsanagar (10 MW) have reported peak daytime consumption. Substations in Sarjamda, Govindpur and Pardih also recorded increasing usage.
The goal is to pre-emptively identify which areas are most vulnerable to overload and implement controlled shutdowns if necessary. This planning is expected to ensure smoother electricity supply during the peak summer period.
Officials are urging residents to conserve energy during peak hours and are deploying additional teams to monitor fluctuations
