Bihar: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Sunday performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a landmark ₹150 crore rural vision care initiative in Mastichak, located 70 km from Patna. The project aims to build one of the world’s largest rural eye care ecosystems, creating an annual capacity for 3.3 lakh eye surgeries and training for 1,000 eye health professionals every year.
The initiative delivers affordable treatment, expands rural outreach, and provides vision care skills to underserved communities across the Hindi heartland.

In a post on X, Mr. Gautam Adani emphasized his guiding philosophy, “Seva Hi Sadhaana Hai” (service is the highest form of worship).
“Restoring sight is not merely a medical intervention. It is about returning hope, confidence, and dignity to a human life,” Mr. Adani wrote.
Calling Bihar a land that historically gives new consciousness and direction to the nation, he announced that the newly-created trust, the “Adani Akhand Jyoti Foundation,” will take this spirit of service from Bihar to underserved communities across India through an additional personal commitment of ₹500 crore.
Expanding Healthcare and Infrastructure in Bihar
The Adani Foundation, the social welfare arm of the Adani Group, financially supports the construction of the Adani Centre for Eye (ACE) and Adani Training in Ophthalmic Medicine (ATOM) in Mastichak. The Foundation partners with the Akhand Jyoti Foundation, a leading rural eye care institution in Bihar that has completed over 14 lakh sight-restoring surgeries since 2005.
- ACE operates as an advanced surgical facility focusing on affordable care, complex procedures, and large-scale rural outreach.
- ATOM trains optometrists, ophthalmic assistants, and community healthcare workers to strengthen India’s rural healthcare workforce.
During the ceremony, Dr. Priti Adani (Chairperson, Adani Foundation) and Mr. Mritunjay Tiwary (Co-Founder and CEO, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital) joined Mr. Adani to flag off a fleet of 10 patient transport buses under the ACE banner, securing last-mile medical access for remote villages.
Additionally, the Adani Foundation announced plans to establish a separate 200-bed hospital in Pirpainti, located in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district. The facility sits near the Adani Group’s upcoming 2,400 MW, ₹27,000 crore ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, further strengthening healthcare access across eastern Bihar.
The total investment outlay for these pioneering healthcare initiatives will exceed ₹700 crore.

Driving Private Investment in the State
This healthcare push underscores the Adani Group’s growing presence in Bihar, where cumulative investments and planned commitments reach up to ₹40,000 crore, making the Group one of the largest private sector investors in the state.
The Group’s diverse active investments in Bihar include:
- Energy: Developing city gas distribution networks in Gaya and Nalanda through Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Limited.
- Smart Infrastructure: Installing nearly 30 lakh smart meters across northern Bihar through Adani Energy Solutions Limited.
- Manufacturing: Constructing two 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cement grinding units in Nawada and Muzaffarpur districts, totaling a ₹3,000 crore investment.
This collaboration aligns closely with the Government of India’s National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), creating a community-driven model for affordable eye care delivery.
