Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is gradually slipping into winter mode as a refreshing chill sets in across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast several days of dry, crisp weather accompanied by clear skies and pleasant daytime conditions — a perfect prelude to the winter season that typically strengthens after mid-November.
According to the IMD, fog or mist is likely to blanket parts of the state during the early morning hours from November 5 to 8.
However, the skies are expected to clear up as the day progresses, paving the way for bright sunshine and dry weather across most districts.
The absence of any active synoptic system — such as a western disturbance or low-pressure area — has contributed to a stable and dry atmosphere over Jharkhand.
Meteorologists note that this calm phase of weather marks the beginning of the seasonal transition, as humidity levels dip and northwesterly winds begin to dominate.
The result – cool mornings and evenings, with comfortable daytime temperatures ideal for outdoor activities, travel, and festive preparations.
Districts located in the plateau and hilly belts, including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Latehar, and Gumla, are likely to witness a more noticeable drop in minimum temperatures in the coming days.
As the mercury begins its gradual descent, residents can expect the chill to intensify around mid-November, when Jharkhand typically experiences its first spell of sharp winter cold.
Importantly, the IMD has confirmed that no adverse weather systems are currently affecting the region, and no alerts or warnings have been issued.
This ensures a spell of stable, safe, and serene weather across the state.
For residents, the days ahead promise bright sunshine, cool breezes, and clear evenings — a much-welcomed change after weeks of post-monsoon humidity.
Sonali Singh, a homemaker from Sonari, said, “There’s a distinct nip in the air, both in the mornings and evenings over the past two days — a sure sign that winter is setting in.”
However, early morning commuters have been advised to drive cautiously, as patchy fog or mist may temporarily reduce visibility in some areas.
With the gradual onset of winter, Jharkhand’s landscape — from the Chotanagpur plateau to the forested valleys — is set to don its characteristic crisp and pleasant charm once again.
