Orders upgrade of Hotwar sports complex

Ranchi, Sept 24: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday directed state officials to expedite the establishment of a Sports University in Ranchi, stressing that the ambitious project must not be bogged down by bureaucratic delays.
He asserted that the proposed institution would provide a robust platform for local athletes to sharpen their skills and seize opportunities at both national and international levels.
High-Level Deliberations on Sports Infrastructure
Chairing a high-powered meeting in the state capital with senior officials from the sports department and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Soren reviewed plans for upgrading the Mega Sports Complex at Hotwar.
Tourism, art, culture, sports, and youth affairs minister Sudivya Kumar was also present.
The chief ninister examined the existing condition of facilities across Khelgaon and instructed authorities to address shortcomings with urgency.
He underscored the need for seamless access to resources so athletes can train consistently and the state can host marquee sporting events without disruption.
Hotwar: Jharkhand’s Sporting Crown Jewel
Describing the Hotwar complex as Jharkhand’s sporting identity, Soren remarked, “Very few places in India house multi-sport stadiums within a single complex. Jharkhand has already set a benchmark by successfully hosting prestigious national and international competitions here.”
To safeguard this legacy, he directed that the entire complex be modernised with cutting-edge technology and global-standard amenities, recommending the engagement of specialised agencies for the task.
Sports University: A Cornerstone for Talent and Research
According to Soren, the upcoming Sports University will be the bedrock of Jharkhand’s sporting ecosystem.
With advanced training facilities, academic programmes, and state-of-the-art infrastructure, it aims to groom emerging talent while offering structured professional pathways for athletes.
Officials noted that the university would also transform Jharkhand into a hub of sports education and research, attracting aspirants and students from across India.
Bridging Gaps, Building Futures
The chief minister emphasised that deficiencies in the Mega Sports Complex must be eliminated without delay, given that its facilities are in constant use for training and competitions.
He also called for meticulous planning to ensure Jharkhand remains a preferred venue for national and international tournaments in the years ahead.

The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary to the chief minister Avinash Kumar, secretaries Manoj Kumar and Arwa Rajkamal, sports director Shekhar Jamuar, chief engineer of Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Sanjay Kujur, general manager Avinash Kumar Deepak, CCL CMD N.K. Singh, director (HR) H.N. Mishra, and JSSPS CEO N.K. Jha.
