National award-winning playback singer felicitated by alma mater

Jamshedpur, September 25: Loyola School Jamshedpur on Thursday felicitated its distinguished alumna, Shilpa Rao, who recently received the National Award for Best Playback Singer. Returning to her alma mater, Rao walked down memory lane, recalling her time at the school and sharing her inspiring journey in the world of music.

A celebrated voice of contemporary Indian Music, Shilpa Rao has lent her soulful melodies to several iconic Bollywood films, winning hearts across the nation and abroad and has carved a place of honour in the world of music.

Born in Jamshedpur, Shilpa Rao trained in Hindustani Classical Music under the guidance of renowned musician and composer Hariharan. Her debut in Bollywood came in 2007 with the song Tose Naina Lage from the film Anwar, which marked her breakthrough. Since then, she has delivered several iconic tracks, including Javeda Zindagi (Anwar), Manmarziyan (Lootera), Bulleya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil), and Ghungroo (War), earning recognition nationally and internationally.

To honour her achievements, Loyola School presented a special video tribute highlighting her journey from student to celebrated playback singer. Former principals Fr. Pius Fernandes and Fr. Victor Misquith, along with current principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, felicitated Rao, making the occasion a proud moment for the entire Loyola fraternity.

Addressing the gathering, Rao expressed heartfelt gratitude to Loyola School for nurturing her during her +2 years. She encouraged students to pursue their passion with sincerity, resilience, and humility, reminding them that excellence comes through consistent effort. Captivating the audience, she performed a few of her favourite songs at the request of the students.

In her vote of thanks, Vice Principal, Jayanthi Sheshadri, highlighted Shilpa Rao’s astounding achievements on the global platform, her international fame and emphasized how her journey inspires us to dream big and turn those dreams to reality.

Her achievements will continue to inspire generations to pursue their passion with determination.
