Ranchi, June 12: A major crackdown by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) triggered panic in the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)‘s Giddi Local Cell on Thursday morning. Acting on an illegal recovery case, a CBI team from Ranchi raided multiple locations, including the Giddi project office, residences of CCL officers, workers, and coal lifters.
Raids were conducted at six locations, including the homes of Ayodhya Karmali (then officer of Giddi project), CCL workers Prakash Mahli and Mukesh Kumar, and coal lifters Vijay Singh, Vinod Dangi, and Ashish Karmali. The team seized mobile phones, laptops, documents, and passbooks, and interrogated several individuals during the hours-long operation.
Earlier, on March 6, 2025, the CBI had conducted a surprise inspection of the Giddi project, collecting key evidence. Based on findings, the agency lodged an FIR against Ayodhya Karmali, Prakash Mahli, and Mukesh Kumar, among others.
Following the earlier inspection, CCL transferred Ayodhya Karmali to the VTC in Argadda. The recent raids have left the entire Argadda area tense. Led by officers Kuldeep Kumar, Tapesh Pachauri, Ajay Thakur, and Chandan Kumar, the CBI operation involved a 42-member team. Further investigations are ongoing, and more names are expected to surface.
