Jharkhand: Body of missing Class 11 girl found near riverbank in Giridih

Giridih (IANS): The body of a Class 11 girl, who had been missing for two days, was recovered from the bank of the Usri river in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Wednesday. Police identified the deceased as Payal Kumari, a resident of Sirsia under the Muffasil police station limits.

Authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the case. According to family members, Payal left home on Monday morning, informing them that she was heading to her tuition classes and stitching training. She also routinely taught children. While she usually returned home by the afternoon, she failed to arrive on Monday, prompting her family to contact her.

The family stated that Payal spoke to them in the afternoon, informing them that she was leaving the block office area and would reach home shortly. However, someone switched off her mobile phone shortly afterward. When repeated attempts to reach her failed, the family searched for her independently before alerting the police later that day.

Following the report, police began analyzing her mobile call records and questioning her friends and acquaintances.

On Wednesday morning, authorities received information about a young woman’s body near the Usri river close to the Barganda old bridge. Police rushed to the spot and identified the body as Payal Kumari.

As news of the recovery spread, a large crowd gathered at the site while the grieving family members remained inconsolable. The victim’s cousin, Pintu Kumar Das, has demanded a fair probe and strict action against those responsible.

Sadar SDPO Jeetbahan Oraon and police officer Vivek Madhuri visited the spot to inspect the scene. The SDPO confirmed that the station had already registered a missing person report and stated that investigators are examining all possible angles.
