Jamshedpur’s creative wave reaches Kolkata’s global art platform

Jamshedpur, Nov 24: This December brings a proud moment for Jamshedpur’s art community, as several of the city’s emerging artists are set to feature in a major international exhibition in Kolkata. The “Divine Comedy” art exhibition, to be held from 12 to 15 December at the Nandalal Bose Art Gallery, ICCR, has selected seven artists from Jamshedpur. Among them are young talents and Dexter Art Club founders Arun Kumar, Ishika Mukherjee and Pritam Das, marking a growing national presence for the city’s creative voices.

The exhibition is being organised by the Dexter Art Club, founded by a collective of self-taught artists. The club aims to empower creators who may not have formal art education but possess strong artistic vision and originality. The show will feature a diverse range of mediums including painting, photography and sculpture. This year, several international artists will also participate, with France as a special thematic focus. Handicraft stalls from different states will be showcased as well, including a family known for their traditional Pattachitra art.

Adding further depth to the event, brands like Nikon, Faber-Castell and Pidilite will conduct hands-on workshops, giving artists an opportunity to learn new techniques and professional skills. On the final day, 15 December, the exhibition will also host a theatrical performance. Notable personalities such as actor Sanjib Sarkar, wildlife photographer Joydeep Kundu and artist Sourav Shi are expected to attend.

Speaking about the event, Ishika Mukherjee said the aim is to bring multiple art forms together and encourage meaningful interaction within the artist community. For Jamshedpur’s artists, the exhibition represents a significant step toward deeper engagement with the international art world.
