Jamshedpur’s Angad Kumar Soars from PwD Recruit to Para Sports Star

Jamshedpur, Nov 19: The spark of inspiration can come from unexpected places. For Angad Kumar, it was Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic gold in 2020 that ignited a passion for sports he never knew he had.

Angad joined the Tata Steel in 2024 at the West Bokaro Division, part of the pioneering first batch of PwD employees, working as a CCTV operator in Security department. It was within  this supportive environment that his sporting career truly blossomed. With access to training and encouragement, he clinched gold medals in Javelin and Shot Put at the 21st Jharkhand State Para Athletics Championship 2025, a silver at the 4th National Para Throwball Championship 2025, and proudly competed in both the Khelo India Para Games and the National Para Athletics Championship that same year..

He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the company’s role, “Tata Steel has been instrumental in my journey, providing the support that enabled me to chase my dreams in sports. I am confident that with continued effort, I can achieve more, bringing honour to Tata Steel, my family, and the nation.” He also extended his thanks to his coach, Rajiv Singh, from the Sports department of the Division.

Hailing from Jamshedpur, Angad comes from a family deeply connected to Tata Steel, with his father being a former employee and both brothers currently working there.

Angad Kumar’s inspiring journey underscores Tata Steel’s core belief: that with the right support and an inclusive environment, every individual, irrespective of their background, can find the wings to soar and reach unparalleled achievements.
