Ranchi Airport to Launch Direct Flights to 3 Major Cities

Ranchi: Direct flight services from the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, to three major cities in the country—Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Guwahati (Assam/Northeast), and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)—are expected to start soon. In response to the steadily increasing demand from passengers, the Ranchi airport management has written to various airlines, urging them to commence flight operations on these routes.

Freedom from the Hassle and Expense of Connecting Flights

Currently, to reach these three cities from Ranchi, passengers have to rely on connecting flights via Delhi, Kolkata, or other cities. This significantly increases both travel time and expenses for commuters.

Several social organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, and former MP Ajay Maroo have also taken special initiatives to establish this air connectivity. They pointed out that a large number of people travel from Jharkhand to these states for business, education, and religious pilgrimages.

Boost to Business, Tourism, and Religious Travel

According to the Airport Director, there is a sufficient passenger base available on the Ranchi-Raipur, Ranchi-Guwahati, and Ranchi-Varanasi routes. The launch of direct flights will provide a major boost to business, tourism, education, and employment sectors.

Key Benefit: The launch of a direct flight to Varanasi (Banaras) will provide immense convenience to devotees traveling for the darshan of Baba Vishwanath, making their journey much easier.

Airlines Assessing Commercial Viability

The Airport Director shared that various airline companies are currently assessing the potential passenger volume and commercial viability on these routes. Upon receiving a positive response from the companies, the flight schedules for these new air routes could be announced in the coming months. This will further strengthen Birsa Munda Airport’s air connectivity with different regions of the country.
