Jamshedpur, Oct 9: : The upcoming commencement of academic activities at the new campus of Jamshedpur Women’s University in Sidhgora on International Girl Child Day, October 11, has been welcomed with mixed sentiments.
Former Chief Minister and BJP National vice-president Raghubar Das, expressed joy at the milestone but criticized the state government for unnecessary delays.
Das acknowledged Chief Minister Hemant Soren for the initiative while highlighting the four-year delay in shifting from the previous campus in Bistupur to the new building in Sidgora.
Emphasizing the university as a gift from the BJP’s double engine government, Das reminisced about Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone in 2019.
However, the former Chief Minister raised concerns about the prolonged period between the inauguration by Governor Ramesh Bains and Chief Minister Hemant Soren in December 2021 and the upcoming commencement of academic work in October 2023. In a recent letter to the Chief Minister, Das urged improvements for the university’s efficacy in women’s empowerment.
Additionally, Das drew attention to the challenges faced by the adjacent Jamshedpur Professional Engineering College, completed in 2019 at a cost of Rs 27 crore. The AICTE approved college, meant to contribute to the region’s educational landscape, has fallen into disrepair due to alleged government negligence, with doors and windows reportedly stolen.
The former Chief Minister pleaded with Chief Minister Hemant Soren to take active measures to revive the engineering college for the greater benefit of the Kolhan region. As the inauguration approaches, scrutiny continues over the efficiency and timely utilization of these educational institutions meant to shape the educational landscape in Jharkhand.
