Jamshedpur: Three shops razed in anti-encroachment drive at Kadma

Jamshedpur, Feb 9: East Singhbhum district administration Wednesday launched anti-encroachment campaign in Uliyan, under Kadma police station area amidst sporadic incidents of protest. Two shops and one office of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) were demolished despite protest by local BJP leaders.

During the campaign, the inaugural plaque of a road constructed earlier by former Jamshedpur West MLA and former state minister Saryu Roy. Irked over the incident, Roy’s supporters led by Chitranjan Verma turned up at the scene and resisted the move by the anti-encroachment team.

A large mob had gathered at the scene of anti-encroachment campaign, causing the administration officials to take precautionary measures to control the situation.

Sources said a complaint regarding the encroachment was made earlier to the Circle Officer under the Bihar Public Land Encroachment (BPLE) Act. Consequently, an administrative team accompanied by a huge number of armed police officials was sent to remove the encroachment.

The team comprised CO Amit Srivastava, DSP Kamal Kishore, Kadma OC Manoj Thakur and executive magistrate Santosh Mahato. No sooner did the team arrive at the spot, the local shopkeepers were seen huddling for a remedy against the administrative move. The traders accused the anti-encroachment team of acting with malafide.

Dhalbhum SDO Sandeep Kumar Meena reached the spot to take stock of the situation. After getting an ultimatum from the administration, many traders had removed their goods and belongings from the spot.
