Noamundi, June 18: In a major crackdown on metal theft, Noamundi Police arrested five persons for allegedly stealing power transmission wire used in Tata Steel’s Noamundi operations and recovered a substantial quantity of stolen material from their possession.
According to police, a case was registered at Noamundi Police Station (Case No. 23/26 dated June 15, 2026) under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after nearly 100 metres of high-value transmission wire was stolen from a Tata Steel installation area.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police launched a search operation and conducted raids at multiple locations.
During the operation, stolen transmission wires of varying lengths and thicknesses were recovered from the possession of the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Tumpa Topo (30), a resident of Tonti village under Noamundi Police Station.
Prem Gop (19), a resident of Bokaro Siding.
Adan Munda (20), a resident of Bokaro Siding.
Deva Sarkar (20), a resident of Bokaro Siding.
Akat Karuwa (19), a resident of Tokaikara village.
Police recovered approximately 45 metres of stolen wire from Tumpa Topo, 25 metres from Prem Gop, 18 metres from Adan Munda, 27 metres from Deva Sarkar, and 4 metres from Akat Karuwa.
The recovered wires were found to be of different diameters and were suspected to have been cut from the stolen transmission line.
Following interrogation and completion of legal formalities, all five accused were produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused were part of a larger theft network involved in stealing industrial materials from the region.
