Jamshedpur, June 18: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy feels that investigation is necessary to find out real reasons behind the death of thousands of fish in Jubilee Park’s Jubilee Lake in recent days.
The organization under which this pond is under, that organization should issue an initial statement regarding this.
“The day before yesterday I informed the Director of Fisheries Department, Government of Jharkhand about the death of thousands of fish in this pond. The East Singhbhum District Fisheries Officer would inquire about it and take necessary action. The statement of District Fisheries Officer has been published in today’s newspapers, this statement is not satisfactory. The statement of the District Fisheries Officer, based on a general observation, contains only those things which an ordinary person can infer in his opinion,” said Roy.
“It is not sufficient to say only that there was a shortage of oxygen in the pond, the number of fishes in the pond increased and the temperature of the water of the pond increased, therefore the fishes died,” said Roy.
“I have spoken to Director, fisheries department, Government of Jharkhand and told him that every morning hundreds of people come to the banks of this pond to take a walk, so such impurities in the water of the pond, due to which hundreds of fish die, adversely affect public health as well and asked him for a proper investigation by taking more than one sample of the water of the pond, dead fish and live fish, if there are aquatic plants in the pond and the silt of the pond. Get it checked in the lab,’ said Roy.
The government should get the vegetation investigated so that it can be known that what is the proportion of impurities in the water of Jayanti Sarovar and pollutants, if any and from which areas of Jamshedpur water flows into this lake. Is there any drain that is coming out from inside the steel factory? All such things should be investigated, felt Roy.
