Ranchi (IANS): Veteran Jharkhand politician and former state minister Madhav Lal Singh passed away on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness. The 75-year-old leader breathed his last at 9:05 a.m. at Pulse Hospital in Bariatu, Ranchi, where he had been undergoing treatment for several days.
A Legacy in Gomia and Unified Bihar
A towering figure in regional politics, Madhav Lal Singh was a four-time MLA from the Gomia Assembly constituency. His political journey spanned the transition from undivided Bihar to the formation of Jharkhand:
- Electoral Success: He won the Gomia seat in 1985, 1990, 2000, and 2009.
- Ministerial Roles: He served as a minister in both the Bihar and Jharkhand governments, consistently championing rural development and regional issues.
- Administrative Leadership: He also served as the Chairman of the Jharkhand State Religious Trust Board.
Singh was recently moved from Bokaro to Ranchi after his health deteriorated. Despite intensive care, he succumbed to his illness, leaving behind a legacy as a grassroots leader known for his accessibility and simplicity.
“An Irreparable Loss”: CM Hemant Soren
Chief Minister Hemant Soren took to social media to offer a heartfelt tribute to the departed leader. “The news of the demise of respected Shri Madhav Lal Singh is extremely saddening,” the CM stated. “He made significant contributions to public service and social life for a long time. The demise of Madhav Babu is an irreparable loss to public life.”

Leaders across the political spectrum and residents of Gomia have mourned Singh’s death, describing him as a “guardian figure” of the region. Known for his deep connection with rural voters and his involvement in local public movements, he maintained a reputation for honesty and humility throughout his long career.
Supporters and political dignitaries gathered at the hospital today to pay their final respects to the leader who remained a vocal advocate for the people of Jharkhand for over four decades.
