Jamshedpur, June 18: Jharkhand Governor C.P Radhakrishnan on Sunday while participating in a program organized by Forest Management and Conservation General Committee and Johar Bharat Federation at K.N.J High School in Chakulia block of East Singhbhum district, said that environmental protection has become the biggest challenge for the world.
“The whole world is worried. Due to environmental imbalance, there is an increase in drought, extreme heat, no rain, unseasonal heavy rain, etc., due to which crores of people are affected. The main reasons are indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources, unplanned throwing of garbage and waste materials, construction of factories as well as lack of measures to prevent pollution from them, indiscriminate use of pesticides, lack of scientific technology,” the Governor said.
He said that industrial development is very necessary to meet the basic needs of the ever-increasing population and increase their economic level.
“But along with this the increase in tree plantation is also necessary in the same proportion. The level of ground water is continuously going down. During my visits to different districts, people apprised me about the problems related to water level and irrigation there,” said Radhakrishnan.
The Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner and officials of the Irrigation Department to complete the pending projects for water harvesting soon and also drew attention of the state government toward this aspect.
“Our state is full of mineral wealth, the country’s maximum mineral wealth is present here, if it is used in a planned way, then no power in the world can stop the prosperity of our state, just keeping in mind the environmental balance,” added Governor.
The Governor said that environmental programs were organized in villages by this institution from June 5 to June 17.
He applauded the work done by the organisation.
“Padmashri Jamuna Tudu has made a remarkable contribution in the field of environment and even Prime Minister has also appreciated her work. On the occasion of World Environment Day, more than 50 saplings were planted by him in the Raj Bhavan along with the volunteers of NSS. It is our endeavor to plant more than 1 crore saplings in the state in the coming one year, in which 90 percent are fruit-bearing plants,’ informed the Governor.
“Our forefathers have planted trees, nurtured them and worshiped them. Sarhul festival in Jharkhand is also considered a symbol of environmental protection. Saplings must be planted on all auspicious occasions in the family, such as on the occasion of marriage, on the birth of a child or on other important occasions,” he said.
The Governor felicitated the 10th class state topper Shreya and district topper Kunal, who are residents of Chakulia and also felicitated people who protect the environment and do other social work.
