Jamshedpur, Aug 26: Heavy rain that hit the city from Tuesday night has led to water clogging in most of the areas.� Water entered into several low lying areas.
The city has recorded 90 mm of rainfall in the last 12 hours. Many parts of Mango, Jugsalai are under knee-deep water, making it difficult for people to move. Most of the roads are dotted with stalled vehicles, adding to the chaos. In some low lying areas several autos have been reported stranded in water.
Nearly 800 residents of over 70 flats of Adarshnagar in Sonari are affected by waterlogging and had to wake in knee-deep water this morning for their daily chores.
Heavy rains and poor drainage has led to waterlogging near the entrance to the hospital gate forcing people to wade in ankle-deep water. Last night water had even entered into emergency unit of the hospital.
� It�s really sad that Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), failed to monitor the drainage work which has led to water outlet being clogged leading to such a situation,� said a retired employee and a resident of Adarshnagar.
Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) official said � We are keeping an eye on the development. The contractor had promised to cover the drains but we would meet the residents and take up efforts to clean the clogged drain so that water drains out.�
According to the reports, slums in the Bagbera, Shastrinagar, Jugsalai, Sonari among other areas that are prone to washout during monsoon season, are confronting problems. The low pressure build-up and an active monsoon trough resulted in a shower showdown at many places during the past 24 hours.
�Weather conditions will remain the same, by and large, and incessant rains in moderate to heavy form will continue for the next two days,� said the local met office. The monsoon is back to life, here for the last one week, in the wake of cyclonic circulation over Gangetic Bengal and Bangladesh, said a met official.
In the wake of incessant rains, for the last two days, flooding the low lying areas and water level experiencing a gradual increase in the two rivers the authorities have jumped into action.
