Sessions to Begin in 2026-27
Jamshedpur: The state government has officially approved the commencement of the Jamshedpur Professional College. The institution will begin its first academic session in 2026-27. This decision follows persistent efforts by Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu to operationalize the long-pending facility.
Legislative Push for Higher Education
During a recent assembly session, MLA Purnima Sahu raised critical questions regarding the college’s delay. She highlighted that despite the building being ready for years, the campus remained inactive. In response, the government clarified its stance on the college’s management.
Officials confirmed that the state government will run the institution directly. Furthermore, the government has rejected any proposal to operate the college under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Consequently, the campus will be established as the “Institute of Professional Studies.”
Professional Courses to Drive Employment
The government announced a diverse curriculum aimed at boosting local employability. Starting from the 2026-27 session, the college will offer the following professional programs:
- Master in Business Administration (MBA)
- Integrated Programme in Management (IPM)
- Diploma in Computer Application (DCA)
These courses are designed to provide high-level professional training to the youth of Kolhan within their home district.
A Six-Year Wait Comes to an End
The foundation for this professional college was laid under the leadership of the then-Chief Minister Raghubar Das. Recognizing Jamshedpur as an industrial hub, the government built the college in Sidgora. The goal was to train local students specifically for roles in the region’s industrial sector.
However, the project remained stalled for the past six years. Following the government’s recent solid decision, this period of uncertainty has finally ended.
A “Big Win” for Kolhan Youth
MLA Purnima Sahu described the approval as a significant victory for local students. She has further urged the government to introduce skill-development programs at the campus. By doing so, she believes more youth can access vocational training and immediate job opportunities.
Ultimately, the opening of the Jamshedpur Professional College is expected to strengthen the regional academic environment. It marks a vital step toward creating a skilled workforce that meets the specific needs of Jamshedpur’s industries.
