Jamshedpur Police to keep third eye on Durga Puja celebration

Jamshedpur, Sep 28: Residents can pin hope on the district administration’s initiatives for a safe and hassle-free Durga Puja. Police officials of the steel city and Seraikela-Kharswan convened a meeting to discuss security arrangements for the festival.

The senior officials highlighted the need to identify sensitive zones, install surveillance cameras, deploy forces and coordinate with government agencies to ensure law and order is maintained.

Drone cameras and CCTV cameras will be a part of elaborate security arrangements that the district police have planned for a peaceful Durga Puja celebration across the steel city. Moreover, about 2,500 policemen are also being deployed at the strategic points on the main arteries of the city and also near the Puja pandal for the safety and security of pandal hoppers.

“We are taking every step to ensure the safety of the people. The city has been divided into five zones which will be looked after by deputy superintendents of police. We will use drone cameras in all these zones like Jugsalai-Bagbera-Station, Kadma-Sonari-Bistupur, Sakchi-Sitaramdera-Golmuri-Burmamines, Mango and Telco-Birsanagar-Govindpur-Parsudih, especially at the pujas where fair are organised,” said  the official while talking to the newsmen.

Speaking about the use of CCTV cameras, the senior cop said that with additional 55 surveillance cameras installed, the total number of cameras has gone up to 205. “Moreover, there will be a magistrate deputed at the CCTV monitoring cell at the composite control room (CCR) at Sakchi police station premises.  The magistrate with the help of CCTV surveillance officials will enable police, especially the mobile police to reach any spot within minimum time having gathered CCTV footage on the screen at the CCTV monitoring cell,” he said.

“The CCTV camera phenomenon is not new to this city but, in the wake of the abnormal situation the country is facing these days, the need for a third eye has become necessary. And, it is purely a security measure the administration wishes to take up in the larger interest of the denizens,” said Ram Babu Singh, of durga puja central committee.

The city for the last several years has been witnessing the swell in the strength of the puja revellers and at the same time many of the puja pandals have been installing CCTVs for obvious purpose without any intervention of the law enforcing agencies.

Meanwhile, security in the city has been enhanced as Navratri started, with increased police patrolling and deployment of policemen in plainclothes at different strategic points of the city.
