Jamshedpur, March 12: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum M Tamil Vanan led the anti-addiction cum anti-crime campaign of the city police in Bistupur here on Saturday.
During the campaign, police recovered cigarettes, gutkha, pan masala and cigarette papers from several shops. Cops also inspected tea and snacks shops for objectionable items and gathering of anti-social elements. They warned several shopkeepers against unnecessary crowding and also took several youths to task for aimlessly loitering around near public places in suspicious condition.
Police officials also took samples of tea served to customers at several tea stalls. They said the samples would be sent to laboratory for testing to know if they contain addictive ingredients such as opium or other narcotic substances. They said they had received complaints about some tea sellers mixing addictive substances in tea.
The SSP said criminal elements hanging out at various corners of the city often give rise to loot crimes. In order to tighten noose around such elements, police have launched an intensive inspection drive across the city, he said.
The SSP said the police campaign would continue for one month.
